BEAKER-I - Chicago, IL

The tale of the BEAKER-I has been a wild one. Many of you followed us in real time via Twitter or Facebook, but this is a recap for those of you who had actual things to do on Wednesday and Thursday, May 30/31st of 2012. The mission: To launch, via weather balloon, a classroom “Beaker” […]

Introducing ISON
Introducing ISON

Today begins the launch of a new project. Today, we begin work on ISON, a high altitude rocketry project aimed at achieving weightlessness (if even for a minute or two). Our goals are high, but that’s the point. This site will continue to exist as an archive to the BESPIN project, but a new site […]

Lost & FOUND!
Lost & FOUND!

Ladies and Gentlemen, the BESPIN III has been found! Got a call the day after Thanksgiving that the BESPIN III had been recovered around 200 yards from the edge of our search area! Not only was the BESPIN III recovered, but the old YAVIN IV craft, lost on Nov 20th, 2010, was located in Cornell, […]

The End of BESPIN
The End of BESPIN

Well everyone, we’re officially calling it on the search for the BESPIN-III. For all of you who’ve helped us along the way, we can’t thank you enough. Its been an amazing ride and we’ve gotten some amazing imagery/video along the way. Naturally, it had to come to an end eventually, however being lost in the […]

The Final Launch
The Final Launch

Friends, its been a wild ride this summer, but as the old saying goes “All good things must come to an end.” So this Saturday, October 22nd, we’ll be launching our final balloon of the year. The weather is getting colder, the hunters are hitting the forests, its time for us to call it for […]

Mantorville, MN – 9/10 – Harvest Moon
Mantorville, MN - 9/10 - Harvest Moon

The BESPIN-III had its inaugural launch last night down in Mantorville, MN in an effort to capture some great sunset shots as well as some shots of the Harvest Moon. We had an absolutely perfect day for it, no wind, no clouds, 75° or so. Couldn’t have been better. We launched a few minutes early, […]

BESPIN-III – We’re back!
BESPIN-III - We're back!

Well its been a few weeks folks, but we’re back in the game here at BESPIN Mission Control. We’ve been thinking a LOT about the design of our craft, reducing the fogging issues we’ve been having, eliminating the “hang” issues we’ve been having at 100,000+ ft as well as coming up with a solution for […]

Mantorville, MN – 8/19
Mantorville, MN - 8/19

Well what an interesting launch this proved to be. We had some ups, we had some downs, but in the end, it was pretty great. We launched from just east of Mantorville, MN, my hometown growing up. Attendees were Rick Erickson (Dad), Cindy Erickson (Mom) and my (Jamey) old 7th grade science teacher Mr Bruce […]

Delano, MN
Delano, MN

Well it turned out to be a beautiful day for a launch over in Delano, MN with my good buddy Bruce. Bruce and I launched the final Yavin IV last year, the one that was lost in Taylors Falls, so we had some baggage we needed to take care of. Naturally there was some concern […]

Welcome Home
Welcome Home

Very excited to welcome the original BESPIN-I craft back to mission control. After being lost in space for approximately a month and a half, she was kindly returned to us by our new friend Richard in Watauga, SD. Thank you so much for sending her back to us, she was missed. Now, since we’ve got […]

BESPIN I – FOUND
BESPIN I - FOUND

This weekend something very special happened. Saturday evening, around 6:30pm, my phone rang. I didn’t recognize the number, but it was from an area code clearly not in MN, so I was curious and I answered. Much to my surprise, this was very much a call I wanted to take. Richard Welsch of Watauga, SD […]

Success!
Success!

Wow, what a day! An overwhelmingly successful launch from Blue Earth, MN producing some amazing shots (and stories to tell). We launched at precisely 10:38am from just southeast of the small town in southwestern Minnesota, with the expectation (based on Jet Stream forecasts) that it would said northeasterly and land somewhere not far from my […]

What is BESPIN

Bespin is the successor to the fallen Yavin IV project run by Sevnthsin.

The goal of Bespin is to operate lighter and more precisely than Yavin IV, while capturing even more stunning imagery of the earth from 100,000+ feet up.
